Another great meeting filled with energy and camaraderie.  This weeks notes include a talk by UMF Senior and Director of the Phillips Area Boys and Girls Club, Nichole Brochu.  Nichole outlined the history as well as the progress of the group beginning with the Safe Zone and the many projects and activities which keep the youth of Phillips and surrounding areas busy and entertained and no longer on the streets.

Thursday morning is my favorite time of the week.  Sharing breakfast, laughs and news with friends each week leaves me heading off to work full or energy and wide awake!

Recognition:  Lucky Harrison was recognized with a Service Above Self Award for his outstanding work to create the new Queen of Hearts game for the Price is Right.  Congratulations and well deserved Lucky!

Secretary's report:  Wow, no visiting Rotarians, no guests, no birthdays.......that doesn't happen very often.  Please wish Martha W. and Marty P. great anniversaries this week.  Al Feather was given a new interim-soon to be Secretary's reference book.  Al will "step up to the plate" (how is that for a pun!?) as Secretary when Doug moves on to the important post of District Governor.

News from other clubs:  The Ellsworth Club is selling 2006 District Conference Polo Shirts with sizes ranging from S-XXXL for $25.00.  Order by May 24 through Doug.  If you wish to be advertising your business in the local Elsworth and MD Island papers you can submit your ad by April 19 to get it in time for the conference.

The Augusta Club is selling bags of Vadalia Onions........Yum!  They are $20 per bag and there is enough to share with friends.  Order through Doug.

Other business:  Donations this week continue to benefit our local SAVES.

Pauline R. reminds us that the Charter Night for the Interact Club will be 7:00 PM on the 25th at Mt. Blue.  Everyone is welcome and what a great way to support the members of this great new venture.

Price is Right profited the Club by about $1200!!  This is the best yet!  Great job all!

Adrian encouraged members to make up at other clubs which is a great experience.  Doug reminded us that he can look up meeting locations in his extensive listing US and worldwide so contact him before you travel.  Make-ups can be recorded in place of missed local meetings and count up to two weeks before or after your missed meeting.  If you wish to present a banner at your make-up club, let Doug know.  He will make sure you have them to take along.

Mark the date of Thursday, May 25 for the Community Service Awards at the Granary.  Ballots will be available soon and we are working to put an e-ballot on the website.

Pauline won the breakfast drawing.  Al got to pick a card with a chance at the $216.50 raffle but was gracious enough to leave the win to some future member!

Happy Dollars:  Kathy and Al once again brought us a laugh with their ongoing banter of Red Sox and Yankees.  I do look forward to their creativity.  Gil thanked the club for support on the new military project at Nichols.  They have hired 12 and have 12 trailers ready to go.  Pam celebrated her 5th year in business with Mt. View Chocolates with a basket of wonderful chocolate Easter Bunny sticks to share with all.  Thanks!  Fred shared a photo of Sugarloaf and Bigelow looking like they were on the same side of the street.  Clayton was happy to announce that the Livermore Club added a new member and encouraged support for their club growth.

Speaker:  Nichole Brochu is from Stratton and currently a senior at UMF.  She is the Director of the Phillips Area Boys and Girls Club.  She has been hired as the result of a $21000 grant  involving collaboration with, among others, the Healthy Community Coalition.  Since November she has been involved with the many projects of the Club.  The original S.A.F.E. Zone continues to grow from 20 youth to more than 40 and is open for activity at the old gym from 6-9 pm on Friday and Saturday night.  The group continues to work on the old gym to improve its condition and efficiency.  Many hours of work from the adult volunteers and the youth has made great improvement.  TOAST is an after school homework program at the Phillips Middle School from Monday -Thursday 3-5 pm.  A theater program is in the early stages as is a substance abuse prevention program focusing on alcohol and tobacco.  As the grant will be up in the near future, the group is concerned with fund raising and sustainability.  They plan a sale in May and later this year a volleyball tournament and a ball in August during Phillips Old Home Days.  Youth in the age group of 12-18 are encouraged to attend.  These folks are no longer on the streets on Friday nights and feel like they have ownership in the project.  Great news for Phillips and Franklin County.  It was noted that our former member Jill Berry Bowen was instrumental in the original Zoneforerunner a forerunner to this Club.
