Janet Smith, Director of Women, Work and Community spoke to the club about the organizations work and positive influence on several local women. She shared that the mission of the group is to work with displaced homemakers and women on economic development issues. They organization has helped to train women in money management, business planning, retirement planning, and financing of thier future endeavors. She explained that several federal programs allow for grant supported match in establishing saviings for qualifying women. The grant is only large enough to support a few women each year of the grant and th most current grant is already allocated. There are qualification rules for women you can apply for grant support with only 9 or 10 being served in our area over a few year period. This most informative talk created several questions but Rotary members who were unaware of the program intricacies.
